MOONEYES remembers Dante “Duce” Van Dusen, a true hot rodder, friend, drag racer and competitor. Thank you for your time and memories. Duce passed away February 15, 2008. He was a MOONEYES Dealer based in Las Vegas, Nevada and was friends with Dean Moon. He was a key . . . On Father’s Day weekend, it was an excellent example of a classic Southern California weekend with SO-CAL Speed Shop’s Open House, The annual LA Roadster Show and Swap Meet, hot rods, customs and MOONEYES. I went with map in hand to see the Drag Strip in Big Island, Hilo but it was closed, so I asked the shop near by with ’55 Chevy and they told me it was held in night, Very understandable and realized it was my fault to go on 2pm. Plus tonight Race was mainly for import like Hondas, a son of the shop was going to the Race with this Honda which runs in about 10 seconds, that’s fast. They showed me inside shop and there was a Datsun 620 with V8, VW Buggy, ’68 Nova, Nova! in Big island too, ’68 Camaro and this Pick Up. The shop owners own ’55 Chevy had this old MOON tachometer.
MOONEYES USA is getting Dragster ready for NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion(CHRR) in October. This year’s CHRR has theme of American Team Drag Race Car who went across to England to introduce "Drag Racing" back in 60s. Of course the MOONEYES Dragster was one of them and has to complete to join the theme. But only few weeks are left. Introducing the MQQN Gauges sold by MQQN Equipment Company. These are gauges sold in the time of Dean Moon. One use to be able to find them in a swap meet about10 years ago, but nowadays with the Hot Rod Boom in the USA, old Hot Rod related . . . The VW Classics hosted at Irvine Meadows in Southern California is the largest VW event with VW fans from all over the world. This time MOONEYES debuted a brand new set of wheels called “Speed Master Wheel“. There are many shows and events hosted on the weekend of VW . . . This issue is about Vintage Drag Racing / 9th Pomona Nitro Nationals hosted by Good Guys. The free advertising Post Card and Fan Guide hand out (seen above) was cool.
