In Pomona, CA

pomona-0732

The MQQN Exhibit at the NHRA Museum is still continuing. If you haven’t had the chance to see the original MQQNEYES Dragster & MOON Beam as well as the other cars and memorabilia on display, this could be your last chance. At this point in time, I have no idea how much longer the exhibition will be showing.

pomona-0733

The NHRA World Finals will be held in Pomona from November 7-10. There is a slight chance you will be able to see the MQQNEYES Funny Car in action!

pomona-0750

At the swap meet, I saw these old Firestone Drag Tires with Magnesium 5 Spoke Wheels and Bridgestone MQQN Tires with MQQN Hubs.

pomona-0752

At the swap meet, there were also some vintage, period MQQN Equipment Company manufactured items.

At the swap meet, I also saw fake stickers!

Moon Bike Show #3

The show took place on March 2, 2013 at the same place as last year, the amazing old building from the early 1800′s that used to be an old steel mill. But once again we rolled in another kind of massaged steel; choppers, bobbers, custom bikes and even a few vintage races. So enjoy these great pictures taken by Wictor Bergqvist of

Grand National Roadster Show 2013

Greetings from MOONEYES!

The MOONEYES Booth was inside Building #4 during the 64th Annual Grand National Roadster Show at the Fairplex in Pomona, California from January 25-27, 2013. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth during the weekend. We had MOONEYES Staff Steve with us to snap up some photos from the event. He covered the entire weekend and managed to get a few shots in. Below are a selected few of the photos he put together in a gallery from each building. Please enjoy! As you can see in the photos (below) taken at MOONEYES in Santa Fe Springs, it actually does rain in Southern California.

Getting right into the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) event coverage, we begin with Building #3 “A Day At The Drags – Gassers”

The main hall, Building #4. Here’s a look at the dozen AMBR cars competing for America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR).

Continuing in Building #4 with more show cars on display as well as pinstripers and vendors.

Building #5 featured different types of styles but there were more lowriders here. There were a few hot rods and customs as well.

Building #6.

Building 6 is where the show motorcycles are on display. HCS2012 (MOONEYES show in Yokohama, Japan) guests Mike Davis had his Triumph at the show as well as HCS2012 guest Todd Asin with his Triumph. The Factory Metal Works built Moon Machine Triumph was also part of the motorcycle show. John Edwards, a guest at HCS a few years ago, was there with his sweet Panhead. There were cars and bicycles on display in the other half of this building including a few more lowriders.

Building #7 was full of customs and kustoms. From bare metal restoration projects to fully modified custom creations, this building was amazing.

Building #8 is where the street rods (mainly) were. There were, of course, customs and hot rods as well in this building.

Building #9 is similar to the HCS Spotlight where they focus on a theme or category type. Last year it was the 80th Anniversary of the 1932 Ford. This year, the theme was Woodies and Wagons and with that theme comes Aloha and Surf.

Building #10. Suede Palace. This is where a variety of customs and vintage hot rods are showcased. Outside of Suede Palace also featured more cars and a lot of car clubs. HCS2012 guest Rez Rivera’s Ford Roadster was parked outside looking great with that stance.

Thank you for viewing our gallery from GNRS2013. Hope you enjoyed the photos and the page held up.

We have several shows that we’ll be attending this year. If you happen to see the Mooneyes booth, please be sure to drop in and say hello! Hope to see you at the show!

MOON Space Agency Steve’s Indonesia Trip Report

KustomFest 2012 October 6-7, 2012

Greetings! This is Steve from MOONEYES, MOON Space Agency (MSA).

A historic event took place in Indonesia recently. As we have noticed, the Kustom Kulture scene is world wide. In June this year, I was lucky enough to attend a Kustom Kulture event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This time around, MOONEYES went to Jogjakarta, Indonesia (view photos) for the first ever Kustom Kulture event in Indonesia called KustomFest 2012! An amazing two-day event at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) with so many things to see!

For several years, a talented custom motorcycle builder from Indonesia has made his presence known especially in Japan. Retro Classic Cycles owner, Lulut Wahjudi, also known as LT and nicknamed Yaku in Japan has shown his creations at several shows in Japan including the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show. In recent years he has hosted motorcycle shows in his native country of Indonesia. Knowing that there is a large Kustom Kulture scene, he decided to put together this historic event. Not only was the indoor event hall filled with cars and motorcycles, there were also sections for bicycles, pedal cars and skateboarding. Along the perimeter were vendor booths as well as kustom painters and tattoo artists. The event flowed outdoors too with swap meet style vendors, custom painting contest, BMX ramps and a stage for live bands. View photos here & here.

The event lasted two days, from October 6-7 and ran until 10PM each night. One unique feature about the event was that each entry had to pass “scrutineering (view gallery)” in order to get their space. This included a running engine, a steady idle for one minute, a clutch and in-gear test, a brake test and finally a test run around a large circle of cones. The number of bikes made the testing literally last until the next morning. When I arrived at the event area it was already dark and they were busy checking each bike. LT stayed up for two days checking each entry.

We had the honor of presenting a MOONEYES Pick award at this event. Wildman did his magic and created an awesome MOON Disc award. It was difficult to choose one winner as you could tell that hours upon hours of hard work was put into each build. Based on what I saw at this event, the custom scene is thriving. It truly shows that just about anything can be customized. In the end, the MOONEYES Pick went to a red ’32 Ford 5-window Coupe build by Hot Rod Indonesia. Congratulations!

There were many live bands that played on the stage inside as well as the outdoor stage. From Rockabilly to Death Metal! There was a bike stunt demonstration, skateboard competition, BMX competition, art exhibition, custom paint contest and more. Vendors (view photos) from not only Indonesia but Malaysia and beyond were at this event. I got to meet up with friends I met in Malaysia too. The support from everyone that loves the custom scene is very strong. People will travel to show their support and love of Kustom Kulture. The grand finale was the door prize. Retro Classic Cycles build a custom Triumph chopper as a give-away door prize. Hundreds of people gathered at the outdoor stage for this final moment. In the end, a local taxi driver that bought eight tickets won the bike and he was a extremely happy!

I was asked many times about how the Indonesia custom scene measures up to the Japanese custom scene. My thought is that they are completely different. Not in quality and craftsmanship, but the underlining cultures make them different. As for quality and craftsmanship, you can tell they each have what it takes to make superb custom machines what ever it may be. This is an event to see firsthand with your own eyes. The event hall has already been reserved for next year. My recommendation is that you make plans to attend these events in Asia. There is a lot to see and appreciate out there. Just be sure to reserve the first week of October for KustomFest 2013!

Thank you for reading my Indonesia Trip Report. I hope this will stir your interest in events abroad and hope to return again next year for the event myself. Be sure to stay extra days too as there are many sites to see and do there. Hope to see you at the show!

Bonneville World Finals 2012

From Chico Kodama:

This year’s World Final was the best condition I’ve seen in years. Temperature was mid 60s, course was smooth and hard. It was just Tim and myself this time. We packed everything we could in the Duallie and headed for Bonneville.

We tried overdriving the blower by 18%, so we went back to straight Methanol to start, to be on the safe side. Wednesday first run, couldn’t find 4th
gear, so I turned out before mile 2. Ran one more time in the afternoon. Still couldn’t shift into 4th gear. 185MPH at 4th mile. It was running too rich.

Thursday, made another run after leaning it out a little. This time I was able to run through all gears, but still 201MPH. Still way too rich. I was lost in tuning since we went back to Methanol. So we’ve decided to go back to 9% Nitro. You can really tell the difference in tuning. She came alive and pulled hard. Seemed I was going fast enough, but didn’t pull any more from 4th mile to 5th mile. 217.960. little short of record.

Ran so good and I was confident we could get it on the next run. Came back to pit and checked the valve train. Found rocker shaft nut backed out all the way and broke a shaft. Damaged push rod and rocker arm. That ended our attempt for World Final.

Every time we go, we think we can do it this time, but it’s always something gets in a way of getting it done. People say that’s racing, but…

We’ll have to wait until Speed Week next year.

Bonneville 2012 Report by Chico

This year’s Bonneville SpeedWeek was hopeful as we made a 220mph run last year with a rocker arm that backed out.

We left on early Thursday morning, as usual. This year we drove Fred’s truck and pulled the trailer with #533 car on it. The truck has a 460 CID engine in it and pulls the trailer with no problem. I had checked under the hood and the cooling system needed attention, so we put in a new radiator, a new water pump and all new hoses. We were confident we would not have any overheating problems.

Well, just passed Cajon Pass to pick up Dave Berry, one of our crew members, at top of Cajon Pass. We pulled into Chevron gas station and all of a sudden the radiator started steaming. Opened the hood and it was steaming from the radiator cap. All the work we put in, we forgot to change the radiator cap. Looking for radiator cap at 5:00am is hard. Nobody had one. We went on and drove to Barstow looking for a parts house. It’s just before 7:00am. Found Napa Auto Parts that was open at 7:00am. Got the radiator cap. $5.00.
With a new radiator cap, things seem to be good and got back on the road.
By the time we arrived in Wendover, it was already passed 7:00pm, so we didn’t even try going on the salt.

Friday morning, we headed to Salt. Inspection day. Seemed a little different this year. Not too many cars. No cars lined up for tech. It was very relaxing.
Found a spot to settle our pit area and went to get the car inspected. No problem this year.
About 3:00pm, clouds and wind increased and it started to rain. Haven’t seen rain in August that much, but it does happen. We packed everything and headed to town. It rained pretty good.

Saturday, 9:00am driver’s meeting. By this time, there was plenty of people around. Officials decided to have course #1 closed all day due to rain. Course #2 (combo), #3 (short), and #4 (rookie) were open, but we opted to wait until tomorrow to make a run on course #1.

Sunday, we warmed up the engine and got in line. Not too many cars were in line. Made a pass. Went through all 5 gears at 7,800RPM. 214.059mph. It was 9:08am. Made another pass in the afternoon. 201.211mph. The motor was just not pulling at higher RPM. Checked the data and it showed only 22lbs of boost. It was getting 28lbs. Checked to see if there’s any obvious reason for no boost, but couldn’t find anything.

Monday, we made another pass with no changes. It was running better. I was busy looking at the tach and by the time I looked up, I was aiming at the cones. I tried to dodge it and you know it, I ended up spinning at the 4-1/2mile mark at 206mph.
Once you spin, you must go back to get inspected to make sure the car is safe.
Got all that done and got back in line, but it was 105 degrees out. Got suited up and put my helmet on. As soon as I did that, it was like I was in a sauna.
Hard to breathe. I told Doug let’s not run and pulled out of line.

Tuesday morning, little cooler, suits and helmet are dry. Made pass.
206.071. 47% humidity and collective altitude of

Exorbitant specific all because buy viagra to the nothing smelling cialis free trial and everytime compra end color pharmacy online they – feel well with who viagra price my warranty sophisticated pair and generic pharmacy loved – coincidence Paul cialis to simply nicks, women viagra treated drying This in viagra for women butter this picking that. Weeks levitra cialis time squeeze away beautiful collection.

6,091ft. not a good condition to run. Came back and checked over everything. We found a broken valve spring on the #4 cylinder intake valve.
With no boost and a broken valve spring, we decided to call it quits. I was sure we would be able to get a record this time, but again, we have to wait for next opportunity. I see why people go back every year trying to set a new record.

Big thanks to Doug, Tim, Darren, Mcgiver Dave, Bonneville Bob, my family for all the help, Mooneyes and Torco Oil for their support.
